Festival Production: Sound, Staging and Technical Design

Discover the fast-paced and collaborative world of festival production, with a focus on the advanced technical, logistical, and creative considerations required to deliver safe, high-quality environments for artists and audiences.

Learning is hands-on, technically focused, and rooted in real-world live sound engineering. You’ll work in professional venues, audio labs, and studio environments using industry-standard tools such as digital desks, loudspeaker arrays, signal processors, and computer-based audio systems.

Your development is supported through workshops, seminars, practical briefs, and live event projects. These experiences help you build confidence in front-of-house mixing, system optimisation, and production delivery.

You’ll collaborate with musicians, producers, and event teams from across other specialist degrees, reflecting how audio engineers work within multidisciplinary contexts. Whether mixing a gig, managing stage audio, or configuring advanced systems, you’ll gain the communication and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in live environments.

Throughout the course, you’ll be supported to explore innovative approaches, refine your engineering practice, and build a professional mindset through structured feedback and peer collaboration.

On average you should allow for between 40 hours per week for your studies, of which approximately 25% will be taught (c.10 hours) and 75% will be self-study.
