What did you do before joining dBs?
I worked in the charitable sector supporting adults with drug and alcohol problems. I did a range or roles, from advising on housing, benefits, mental health, employment, to running therapeutic groups on a range of topics from wellbeing to crafting.
Why did you first get into support work?
After University, I was not sure what to do with myself. I looked for admin work, whilst I tried to work out what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. I got a job at a charity providing housing to people recovering from drug and alcohol dependency. I was suddenly learning loads and surrounded by a compassionate, skilled and supportive team. I was very inspired by their knowledge and passion, and I loved the idea of working to help people, I knew that it aligned with my values.
Any special areas of interest?
I am still interested in drug and alcohol support, particularly harm minimisation, ensuring people are equipped with knowledge to keep them and others safe. I am also passionate about nutrition and mental health.
What do you love most about what you do?
I enjoy meeting people, hearing their stories and developing my understanding of them as individuals. I like building connections with colleagues and students, developing the service to provide excellent support to all who need it.
Tell us about your proudest career moment?
I am proud to be able to connect with people and help them to recognise their strengths, in order for them to start building their confidence.
What do you get up to outside of your role at dBs?
I like doing lots of things. I enjoy reading, I also take time out to sew. I like to go out for dinner with friends or have them over for a home-cooked meal. I love dancing to reggae and dub.
Tell us something our students may not know about you?
