David Wells

What did you do before joining Access Creative?  

I studied the BA (Hons) in Commercial Music at Bath Spa University, and worked as a music educator at Marine Academy Plymouth for over ten years before joining the ACC team in 2022. Over the years, I've played numerous festivals in ska, reggae, funk and indie rock bands.

Why did you first get into music performance?

I wanted to write and perform my own songs and enjoyed the experience of playing lunchtime ‘Real Live Music Club’ which got me into jamming and playing with other musicians.

Any special areas of interest?  

I am interested in playing all sorts of music and am a multi instrumentalist with a keen interest in songwriting and composing.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love inspiring people and encouraging them to learn about their passions and develop their craft.

Tell us about your proudest career moment?

Hearing music I was involved in on national radio for the first time and playing bigger gigs, such as festivals, are pretty big highlights for me.

What do you get up to outside of teaching?

Riding my mountain bike, playing cricket, listening to vinyl records, sea swimming and doing Thai Chi, so quite a bit really!

Tell us something our students may not know about you?

Italian blood runs through my family.
